So You want to buy a Memory Foam Matress?
[Perhaps you meant mattress but the information is still good]

A Memory Foam Matress will transform your sleep, because you will be much more comfortable, but do you know that not all memory foam matresses are the same

You should avoid the noticeably inexpensive, as they are made of low density foam, or layered with other cheaper foam products and ingredients. They won’t be as comfortable, and they will wear out quickly.

Do you really want a memory foam matress?

Firstly you need to decide if you want a memory foam matress or a memory foam topper pad to place on top of your current mattress. The topper pad is less expensive, will wear out in a few years, and can then be replaced whereas the memory foam mattress is bonded to the mattress and cannot be replaced, so you need to ensure it is comfortable, but it needs to have durability as well.

What type of memory foam matress should you look for?

1.      You need at least 3 inches of medium to high density foam, which is enough material to cushion and conform to your body. 2 inches isn’t enough, and more than 3 inches will cause you to sink in, and adjusting your position can be a major problem.

2.      The foam density is important too. The less dense memory foam around the 3.5 lb has a softer feel to it, than the higher density foams, whereas the higher density foams are firmer at room temperature. Both will soften when warmed up.

Before you buy any memory foam matress, check up on how it performed in durability testing, and also the manufacturer’s warranty.

You should also check on the manufacturers, and you can trust big name brands like Tempur-Pedic, but be careful about house branded memory foam. You would need to ask about where the foam came from, and if the salesman’s answers are vague then don’t buy, especially if the price seems to good compared to the likes of Tempur-Pedic.

To summarise, don’t buy a memory foam matress with a density of less than 3lb, and it should be 5-6 inches deep. Don’t buy cheap, and if you buy it online make sure you can return the bed if it isn’t comfortable

Finally and importantly, if at all possible you must lie on the memory foam mattress before you buy.
